Manicure Monday (49): Poison Princess

Manicure Monday is a weekly feature that combines my love of nail polish and reading. Each week I'll show you one of my current reads along with what's on my nails.

Hello! Happy Monday, dear readers. I hope you all had a fantastic weekend. I finally saw Percy Jackon: Sea of Monsters (on DVD) and it was pretty bad. I mean, the first one was bad but this one had so many illogical moments and plot holes. Argh. Well I still love the books.  Anywho - today's Manicure Monday mani is Poison Princess by Kresley Cole. I don't know what took me so long to start this series, but it's pretty great. There are a few annoying moments but overall it's highly enjoyable. And Jack Deveaux is just yummy. :) Good thing my friend K lent me book 2 because I need to know what happens - now

(Apologies in advance for these pics. My lighting was bad and my camera was just not having it.)

First I started off with a base of 2 coats of Jessica Cosmetics Glamorous Gladiator, a warm brown with silver and gold glitter. I created the flames with three shades - OPI Animalistic (red), OPI A Roll in the Hague (orange) and Orly Luxe (gold). Using a small nail brush and these three colors, I painted on flames at the tips of my index and pinky fingers.

On the other two nails, I wanted to mimic the look of the gold lettering on the cover. With a nail stamping plate (Bundle Monster BM406), I stamped a vine pattern onto my middle and ring fingers with Orly Luxe (gold). The stamping didn't come out quite as nicely as I'd hoped, but you can still see the pattern.

Flowers - roses in particular, play a role in the book and I wanted to incorporate them into the look.  I painted  2 coats of Orly Luxe on my thumb and used CND Vinylux Bloodline (aptly named) to draw roses over it. I used acrylic paint to draw in the leaves and vines.

This is the whole look. I was actually a little disappointed in this mani. It just looked better in my head and I feel like I messed up a lot and had to re-do a lot of it. I think it looks OK, but it's not my best.

Have you guys started this series yet? Are you addicted as I am? I'd love to hear your thoughts on the book or on this manicure, so leave 'em in the comments below. Have a great week!
