Manicure Monday (35): Catching Fire

If you follows me on Instagram, you may have seen me post that I found one of the Catching Fire by Cover Girl makeup displays last week. It is a mix of older and new products, one of the new products being 9 new nail polish shades. Luckily I found a full display and was able to get one of each of the new colors. I usually pick a book that I am currently reading for MM but I am making an exception this week because I wanted to play with my new polishes.

Since I wanted to work exclusively with the new shades, I decided to do an easy gradient with three of the colors from the collection. All of the polishes in the Catching Fire collection are foil type finishes which work really well with gradients because don't need to be super precise to look awesome.

For this manicure I used Inferno (red/orange), Flamed Out (orange) and Sulfur Blaze (yellow/gold). I started by painting two coats of the darkest shade, Inferno, on all of my nails. After that dried I went back with a makeup sponge and dabbed the second color, Flamed Out, onto the nail starting at about the middle of the nail. Next I sponged on Sulfur Blaze onto the top third and tip of my nail. Because these are foils and are made up of tiny particles, they blend really well together. I also used regular tape around my nails to catch any polish from the sponge that didn't make it onto the nail. Not necessary but it saves a lot of clean up time. Throw a top coat over everything and you have a really cool looking manicure.

This was a really easy look to achieve. I know it may sound daunting but really, it's not. I definitely recommend giving it a try if you like this look.

Is anyone else excited about the Catching Fire movie?  This was actually my least favorite book out of the entire series but I think the movie could be good. The trailers are certainly compelling and I will definitely be seeing it when it comes out. Hope you enjoyed today's manicure. Have an awesome week!
