Stacked (16): Swoon Worthy

Nice to see you again! Welcome to Stacked, my weekly haul post where I share what I bought, borrowed and received during the week.

This was a pretty small book week for me. I am still trying to keep things low buy since I have so many books to read. I picked up one book from the library and pre-ordered a book.

Borrowed (library)

Scandal in Spring (Wallflowers #4) (library) by Lisa Kleypas - YES. I have been Overdrive waiting list for this one for months. Finally it is mine! I cannot wait to read the last book in this awesome series.

Death Comes to Pemberly by P.D. James - I am a little burnt out from Jane Austen themed books (I've read 2 recently that were only so-so) but I've been on the waitlist for this one for a long time. I may just need to wait a bit before I start it.

Chain Reaction (Perfect Chemistry #3) by Simone Elkeles - Yay! Got the third book in this series finally.

Bought

Onyx (Lux #2) by Jennifer Armentrout (pre-order) - OMG the sequel to Obsidian is finally coming out on Aug 14! I just pre-ordered by Kindle copy. :)

By the time you read this I will probably be recovering from my parents visiting me. We have lots of fun plans. Some of them include the beach/coast because L.A. is supposed to be HOT this weekend. Also planning to go see the new Bourne movie. It looks like the perfect fun, summer popcorn movie. And Jeremy Renner? Yes, please!  Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

The time I met Nalini Singh and Nora Roberts + Giveaway

Hola, friends! It's taken me a while but I finally had some time to write up my recap of the RWA 2012 Literacy Autographing Session that took place a couple of weeks ago. RWA is Romance Writers of America and, this year, their conference was held in Anaheim, CA. Every year at the conference they hold a massive autographing session (free to the public) where hundreds or romance authors autograph books with the proceeds going to a literacy organization. This year, the session made over $50,000! Wow, that is a pretty crazy number for 3 hours of autographs. Luckily I don't live too far from Anaheim and I was able to make it to the event. (Warning that this post is gonna be long but you get rewarded with a giveaway at the end)

I got to the convention center around 3:30pm. I made my way up to the ballroom area on the third floor and found that a line had already formed. It wasn't very long (I had just gone to Comic Con the weekend before so everything pales in comparison) and I cheerfully got in line with my fellow romance lovers. The line was pretty uneventful though I did talk to some people about romance authors and, as it neared 5pm, we have some authors and publishers coming out to talk to us in line. By that time, the line had gotten quite long and I could see it snaking behind me.

Uncovered (26): Winterblaze

Hello! Welcome to another week at Uncovered, my cover love post of the week. Today we have the newest cover in Kristen Callihan's paranormal historical romance Darkest London series. If you haven't read Firelight and Moonglow from this series yet, you must. A mix of romance, mystery, and paranormal intrigue that is just fantastic. This is the third book in the series and focuses on Poppy, the third Ellis sister.

All of the covers in this series are pretty awesome and this is no exception. I love Poppy's red hair and the fog rising ominously in the background. What I love the most is her dress and how it flows into what looks to be stormy waves. I am a little disappointed that it doesn't match the other covers in that they only featured the female character on them. Don't get me wrong, Win (man candy) on this cover, is hot. It just doesn't match quite as well to me. But it's still a gorgeous cover and I am really excited to read it. February is so far away...

ALA Summer Read-A-Thon Commences!

Today we are kicking off the ALA Summer Read-A-Thon hosted by Nite Lite, Crystal at Elegantly Bound Books, and Nicole at The Reader's Antidote.  If you missed my original post on it and would like to know more or sign up, check it out here.

So far, I haven't made a huge dent in my ALA pile yet. July was an insane month and August is looking pretty busy, too. My parents are also coming in for a last minute visit this weekend and I am not sure how much reading time I'll actually have. Therefore, my  read-a-thon list is going to be pretty sedate. I am hoping to finish 3 books over the read-a-thon, which I think will be do-able. I am not the fastest reader (at least compared to bloggers because they read fast), and I think three books is challenging but achievable. These are the three books I am planning to read for the challenge (click on the covers to go to their GR pages).

I really want to try to read Dark Companion before a signing on the 16th where Maria will be. The other two just look like fun. So wish me luck. I think I'll need it. Happy reading!

The Hobbit - Trailer

I know this trailer has been out for a while now, but I it's really good and it's getting me super excited for the movie. I am so sad that it doesn't come out until December 14. It looks fantastic and Martin Freeman seems perfect as the young Bilbo Baggins. Also, Richard Armitage. If I get my act together I may try to re-read the book before the film comes out. Is anyone else as excited about this movie as I am?
