So...you know how I said I wasn't going to sign up for any challenges because I suck at them? Well, I signed up for one. I found out about the Women of Genre Fiction Reading Challenge over at She Wolf Reads. It just sounded like a really cool way to support female writers while broadening my reading pool. There are also a bunch of authors/books on the list that I already wanted to read this year and I figured this would be an additional motivation to read those books.
Basically you pick twelve authors from the list whom you've never read before. I think for each book you read, you can mark as read on your account with the site. If you actually write reviews for those books, you can be entered into some contests. The 12 authors I've picked are:
- Kelley Armstrong
- Amber Benson
- Franny Billingsley
- Libba Bray
- Sarah Rees Brennan
- Rae Carson
- Kristen Cashore
- Alma Katsu
- Seanan McGuire
- Erin Morganstern
- Robin Hobbs
- Sarah Waters
I have books for each author pickd out as well though that might change. For Jan I think I am going to read Chime by Franny Billinsgley. I just go it so it might be good to read it soon.
This is the only official challenge I've signed up for this year. With me luck. Does anyone else suck at reading challenges like I do challenges quake in your presence?
YES!!!! So glad you joined up! I love your list. I think mine might change.I started with Hunter and Fox by Phillippa Ballantine. I'm excited about this challenge. :)
ReplyDeletehey you have a name now, lee, instead of just a long number. :) i am hoping that i can keep up with this challenge. if i do one book a month from the list, i should be ok. wishing us both luck. :)
DeleteWhat a great line up of authors! I do kind of suck at challenges, especially the add your review link every month portion of the challenge. But, when I looked back on 2012 I did better than expected actually.
ReplyDeleteAre you going to try to read one book by each author or their complete series? That could be quite a challenge! Let me know when you read The Night Circus- we could do a read along.
Happy reading and good luck with the challenge :)
ahhh! blogger ate my comment!
Deleteonce again - i only plan on reading the first book if it's a series. i may read more but i would not commit myself to it.
and yes! night circus readalong. i have no set time frame for it but maybe in a couple of months?
I'm still on the fence about joining this reading challenge. I think I might go for it though. Between you and Lee, I think the two of you have convinced me. I just need to pick my authors.
ReplyDeleteWhat an Awesome Challenge im horrible at challenges to that's why i refuse to join any lol but this one looks great!
ReplyDeleteI would like to do a challenge, I am just worried that once I got started, something will happen and I wont be able to finish.
ReplyDeleteOoh I just signed up. @CBarton don't worry, WWE won't send the police to your house demanding to know why you didn't finish the challenge :) haha!
ReplyDeleteNot the police but perhaps a fireman. Guy Montag is standing by. ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the challenge and good luck to everyone who signed up!
You have some great authors on your list. Good luck with the challenge!
