Oz The Great And Powerful - Trailer

I know I already shared a trailer with you all this week but I went to see Lincoln tonight (surprisingly really good, not boring, and did not feel like 2.5 hours) - and I saw a new to me trailer for Oz The Great And Powerful. Like a lot of people, I have a love for all things Wizard of Oz, even bad things. And this looks pretty bad to me. I don't know. Maybe I've seen too many fairy tale and Oz spin-offs or something but this looks like pure eye candy and not much else. I love visually interesting films though so I might go see it just for that. I also love Rachel Weisz (esp in The Mummy). :) What's up with all the super attractive women in Oz? Rached Weisz, Michelle Williams and Mila Kunis are all in this.

Do you have a favorite story that you'll see no matter how many times it's done or how bad it looks? P.S. after seeing this my friend and I were talking about how awesome and creepy the movie Return To Oz is. Anyone else remember the head room?

Oz The Great And Powerful releases March 2013.

World War Z - Trailer

First I will apologize for all of the ads on this Youtube spot. I tried to find a link with less ads but couldn't. So sorry and please ignore the ads. Alright, so this trailer for World War Z has been out for a little while now. I was a big fan of the book by Max Brooks and I really wasn't sure how they were going to adapt his really expansive book into one cohesive film. Watching this trailer I still can't really tell how it's going to tie into the book narrative. However, it does look pretty action packed and intense. That music/sound effect thing going on throughout was really jarring and annoying though. Did you guys like that? I am kind of sad we didn't get to see any of the "z" word in this trailer but they're probably saving it for one of the bigger trailers later this year. I am down with pretty much any zombie movie so I will definitely be going to see this one. Who else is in?

The Lady Most Likely...A Novel In Three Parts - Review

The Lady Most Likely...A Novel In Three Parts
by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, Connie Brockway

Category: Adult Historical Romance

Synopsis:

Hugh Dunne, the Earl of Briarly, needs a wife—so his sister hands him a list of the very best young ladies on the market. And then, because he refuses to tear himself away from the stables where he trains Arabian racehorses, she invites all those ladies to a house party, along with some other bachelors, of course. So who will Hugh choose? The Botticelli-esque, enchanting Gwendolyn? The outspoken, delightful Katherine? If he doesn't work fast, he'll lose those ladies to his closest friends, and then where will he look for a wife? Perhaps, just perhaps, toward a lady who's not on a market at all, and would require a great deal of persuading.

Review:

As a fan of Julia Quinn, I could not help but pick up The Lady Most Likely...when I spied it at my library last week. I was in the mood for something short and sweet and this was just that. The story revolves around a house party thrown by Carolyn Finchley as part of her not so subtle quest to find a bride for her brother, The Earl of Briarly. What ensues is a game of romantic roulette where 6 guests find themselves the unexpected prey of Cupid's arrow.

I wasnt's sure what to expect in terms of format from a book that had 3 authors. It was not broken up into short stories, as I thought it might be. Instead, it's one continuous story focusing on three separate couples. I actually don't know which author wrote which part. In that sense, I think the story flowed really well. Since the book is about three couples, you only get a short time with each. But even though my time with the characters was short, I found that there was enough substance and character development that I did care about all of them.

The circumstances of each romance are quite different. Gwen and Darlington's romance was pretty straight forward and was about that unexpected zing of first love. I thought their story was really cute and Gwen's character was unique because of her painful shyness. Kate and Neill's story had a bit more angst, which I always enjoy. After seemingly rejecting Kate four years ago, Neill returns from fighting Napoleon to find that he must win Kate back. I think their story was my favorite and , out of all the heroines, I liked Kate best. Her straight forward manner and sarcastic wit made her a very fun character. The last story (and I think the longest) was about the Earl of Briarly and Georgie. They are good family friends who realize that they have romantic feelings for one another, which is one of my favorite romance tropes. Their story was really sweet and emotional and it was a nice way to end the book.

The Lady Most Likely is a very fun, frothy read. Without a lot of drama or angst, this book isn't the type of sweeping romance that will make you cry. However, I do think it will make you smile. As I said before, I am a huge Julia Quinn fan and would have read this just for her. After reading this though, I would definitely be willing to read something else by both Eloisa James and Connie Brockway. Fans of historical romance looking for a light, entertaining read will enjoy this one.

Top Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me

Hi and welcome to Top Ten Tuesday, an original weekly meme by The Broke and the Bookish. This week's topic is Top Ten Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me. This is the time of year where we all do our holiday shopping (unless you're really good and do it before). And in my search for awesome gifts, it's really hard not to find  things to put on my own wishlist. So here is a list of books I'd love to see under the Christmas tree.

Smitten Kitchen - I love the Smitten Kitchen blog and have been waiting for her book to come out. Yummy recipes and pretty pictures. What more could you ask for?

Rot & Ruin by Jonathan Mayberry - I really want to read this series. I love zombies and these covers look super creepy!

Ten by Gretchen McNeil - This spooky YA book has been out for a couple of months now and I've somehow managed not to buy it yet.

Finale by Becca Fitzpatrick - I know, I know. I still haven't read Silence yet but I am a fan of Becca's and need the final book in her Hush, Hush trilogy.

Playing To Win by Jaci Burton - Lord this series has awesome man candy covers. I have a lot of fun reading this series and want to read Cole's story.

True Blood Cookbook  - I am a total sucker for book/movie tie-in items and I really want to take a look at this cookbook. I think the mix of southern recipes with True Blood trivia might be really fun.

The Prince by Tiffany Reisz - I love The Original Sinner series by Tiffany Reisz. It's so original and very addictive. The Prince is the third book in the series and my favorite. Kingsley and Søren's story is so good! And though I have this on my Kindle, I would love a physical copy of it.

Alice In Zombieland by Gena Showalter - I love the cover to this one. I've looked at in in store and the book has all of these really gorgeous details on the book jacket and in the pages. Definitely one I'd like to have in physical form.

Parasol Protectorate Box Set - I already own three of these books but I would love to have the whole series in this great looking box set.

Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones - I need to catch up on this funny, paranormal series. I think book four just came out but I still need to read three.

I'd love to hear what books you have on your Christmas list. Leave a link and I'll stop by!

Stacked (32): My Library Rocks

Hello again! I can't believe that the weekend is almost over already. Seriously, where did the time go? Work was tough last week and this weekend is a much needed respite. Since I am trying not to spend a ton of money, I have been visiting the the library whenever I get the book itch. Luckily I have a pretty great local library and they get new books constantly. I did buy a couple of things but I don't feel bad about them because I was supporting local businesses. And it totally doesn't feel like December. Has anyone started their Christmas shopping yet?

Library

The Lady Most Likely by Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, Connie Brockway - Really quick read. Review coming soon.
Tiger Lily by Jodi Anderson - I keep seeing rave reviews about this one and was totally shocked to see it in my library this week.
The Shadow Society by Marie Rutkoski - Another great library find. This one sounds like a lot of fun and love that cover.
Unraveling Isobel by Eileen Cook - I don't really know what this one is about but I have heard good things.
The Templeton Twins Have An Idea (ebook) by Ellis Weiner (Author), Jeremy Holmes (Illustrator) - I really need to catch up on my MG reading. This looks super cute and I was happy to snag it on Overdrive this week.
Sweet Shadows (ebook) by Tera Lynn Childs - I really enjoyed the first book in this series, Sweet Venom, and am excited to read the sequel.

Bought

Fairest Vol 1: Wide Awake by Bill Willingham (author), Phil Jimenez (illustrator) - I picked up Vol 1 TPB of Bill Willingham's latest series. I love, love his Fables series and think this spinoff looks awesome. If you love fairy tale re-tellings, you have to read Fables.

Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon - I went to a really cute, fun event this weekend with Salina Yoon (Penguin and Pinecone) and Tao Nyeu (Squid and Octopus). I already had Squid and Octopus so I picked up Penguin and Pinecone. There's nothing cuter than a penguin with a scarf. :)

That's my book haul for this week. Is anyone else enjoying some rainy weather this weekend? Makes me want to curl up with a book and a cookie.
