Hello again! I hope you all had a nice weekend. No big plans for me this weekend, which is kinda nice. I really need to catch up on my reading and knitting so the free time is needed. I still have a mountain of ALA books to read so I haven't acquired too many books this week (at least not physical ones). I received one book for review, which I am really excited about and stocked up on audiobooks.

For Review

Burn For Me by Ilona Andrews - I had a mini freak out session when I saw this one on Edelweiss and saw that I was also auto-approved. Yes, please! I am a huge fan of the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews series and was excited to hear that the duo was writing a straight up romance this fall. While I am not a huge fan of this cover, I am very excited about the insides of this book. 

Bought

I used up all of the Audible credits langushing in my account and purchased on audiobook for super cheap. Guess I need to actually start listening to some of these on my commute now.

Landline by Rainbow Rowell - I was going to hold out and get this in hardcover but funds are a bit tight and I had a bunch of Audible credits. Hoping that the audio version is good.

One More Thing by B.J. Novak - Another celebrity type memoir/book that looks promising. I really like BJ Novak's work on The Office and hope that it translates in to his writing. He also reads it which is a bonus.

Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson - I've been meaning to reach one of Matson's books for a while now and this looks like a good summer read. It was also on sale for just $3.99 on Audible.

Tangled by Emma Chase - I've never listened to any type of romance book before and thought I'd give it a try. I've heard good things about this one.

The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su and Kate Rorick - I really loved The Lizzie Bennet Diaries web series and wanted to jump back into that world. It's also read by the actress that played Lizzie in the web series which should be fun. 

Even though I have a long commute now, I don't listen to a whole lot of audiobooks. Clearly this needs to change and I have a whole slew of them to get through. Big thanks to Lucy at The Reading Date whose blog I mined for audiobook recs. Besides just having a great blog, Lucy listens to tons of audiobooks and reviews them. Her blog is a great resource when you need an audiobook rec.

Stacked (114): The ALA Edition

Hi, everyone. I hope that you are enjoying the long 4th of July weekend if you are celebrating in the US. I am really loving having so much time off. It's been uber hot her but I am managing to stay cool for the most part. I went to a BBQ and ate way too much and saw 22 Jump Street (I blame my friend K for that one). You guys all know that I went to ALA last weekend. Today I am going to show you some of my favorites from ALA. Many thanks to all of the publishers at the event who were very nice and stayed calm in the midst of book chaos.

Staring from the top left and going clockwise - 

Wildlife by Fiona Wood - I have heard so many good things about Fiona Wood, esp from Mands at The Bookish Manicurist. Unfortunately her books have not been published in the U.S. until now. Though contemp is not usually my thing, I am really excited to start this one.

Mortal Heart by Robin LaFevers - This was one of my top wants from ALA. I got this the first night and everything after was just icing on the cake.

Maplecroft by Cherie Priest - Many thanks to my friends K and C who saw this one and snagged it for me. Besides the awesome cover, this one looks like it's going to be a really creepy and cool read about Lizzie Borden.

Jackaby by William Ritter - Another one with a great cover, Goodreads describes this as Dr Who meets Sherlock. Sign me up!

Heir of Fire by Sarah J Maas - Another of my big wants from ALA. Man this book is huge and I cannot wait to dive into it.

The Young Elites by Marie Lu - The line for this book was pretty insane but it was really well organized and went really fast. Marie Lu is a pro at signing quickly while still giving everyone some personal attention. I really liked Lu's Legend series and am excited to see where her new story takes us.

Let's Get Lost by Adi Alsaid - I really like road trip stories, which is what piqued my interest on this one. It's been getting a lot of buzz on the blogger front as well. Looks like it would be a fun summer read. 

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson - I have heard really good things about this book and the cover is so fun and bright. I was not able to catch Nelson's signing at ALA but managed to get a copy of the ARC anyway. Hoping to start this one soon.

The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost - I had no idea that Jeaniene Frost was going to be at ALA. I am a huge fan of her Cat & Bones series and was super stoked to see that she was signing her new YA book at the Harlequin booth. She doesn't tour on the west coast much so this was a rare opportunity for me to meet her. I may have fangirled a little bit. Really interested to see how she does YA. 

I can't believe that ALA is already over. My friends and I started planning it literally two years ago and now it's over. And next year it's going to be in San Francisco, only an hour from where my parents live. I need to start plotting now...

Hi, all. I'll be in Sin City by the time you're reading this. Hope you are all having a fantastic weekend. I only have a baby book haul this week. I went to the Summer Lovin 2.0 Tour on Tuesday (recap soon) and bought one book - Sarah Ockler's #scandal. I am a big fan of Sarah's and just think that she is also the sweetest person. I always love being able to see her when she goes on tour. I was very restrained and bought only one book even though I wanted all the books. But I will be getting some at ALA this weekend, so that will make up for it.

A little snapshot of my autographed book. I haven't started this yet but hope to soon. I am only bringing my Kindle to Las Vegas to save on space and left this at home.

Hello, again. I hope your weekend is going just swimmingly. This weekend is pretty jam packed for me. I am also gearing up to go to ALA in Las Vegas next weekend so I am starting to pack for that. Yeah I am one of those weird people who wants to pack 3 weeks before I actually go on vacation. But I am excited about it. I'll be hanging out with some good friends and getting my book on, so it should be a good time. 

This week's book haul is, again, very small. Just trying to make my way through the stacks of book I already own. If you saw my post from yesterday, you know that I have plenty of books to choose from.

Ahhhh! Super excited that I was approved for an e-galley of The Book of Life by Deborah Harkness. This is the final book in the All Souls Trilogy and I cannot wait to read it.

Hi, everyone. I am popping in for a quick post today before I head off to see How To Train Your Dragon 2. This week's book haul was very small. I am really trying to get through my physical and digital ARCs as well as my stack of library books, so not much book hauling has been happening.

Shield of Winter by Nalini Signh - Yes, the newest book in the Psy-Changeling series. I am saving this one for when I have a little more free time or when I go on vacation in a a couple of weeks. I can't wait to read Vasic's story!

Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo - I saw on the internet that some B&N stores were putting this out a few days early so I went in search of it - and found it! I'll be at the Ruin & Rising launch party for Leigh Bardugo tomorow night at The Last Bookstore and plan to buy a book there, as well, but I could not resist grabbing and early copy of this. If you see me at the party, please say hi!

Hi, guys. Hope you're all having a good weekend. It's starting to really feel like summer here and, even though I don't love hot weather, I do love summer nights. I saw Maleficent last night (entertaining) and am seeing The Fault In Our Stars tonight. Everyone I know says they cried buckets at it so I am bringing tissues just in case. :) This week's book haul consists of a few library books and a couple of books that I picked up at a comic book shop sale.

A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan - I've been meaning to read this book for a little while now. Love the cover.

Charm and Strange by Stephanie Kuehn - I picked this up solely because the cover looked cool. I have no idea what it's about but I am going to read it. :)

Blood Kin and Iron Kin by M.J. Scott - I read the first book in this series, Shadow Kin, last week and really enjoyed it. My library had the next two books in the series so I went back and checked them out this week.

Bought

Figure Drawing for All It's Worth by Andrew Loomis - This is a really popular book for artists about figure drawing and it's been on my wish list for a while now. I was happy to find a hardcover copy on sale at the comic shop this weekend.

Uncanny X-Men Vol. 1: Revolution by Brian Michael Bendis - I am so behind on my comics so I was pretty restrained at the sale this weekend and only picked up this one volume. I haven't read X-Men in a long time but I like Bendis as a writer and figured this might be a good place to start and see what's been going on with the X-Men. I am also a fan of Chris Bachalo's artwork.

Hello, hello! I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend. I am spending mine re-watching The Lizzie Bennett Diaries on my TV now that Roku has a Youtube channel and I can watch right on my TV screen! This makes me pretty excited. I only have a small book haul this week - all from the library. I <3 the library.

Buzz Kill by Beth Fantaskey - New book from Beth Fantaskey! I actually have no idea what this one is about but I really liked Jessica's Guide to Dating On the Dark Side, so I am excited about this.

Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Page - Another book I've been dying to read. I love when the library gets a new influx of books. I think this one will make a good Manicure Monday, too.

Affinity by Sarah Waters - Was recommended this book by Wendy from The Midnight Garden. I wanted to get Fingersmith as well but it wasn't at the library when I went. That cover looks spooky.

Hello! This weekend is a holiday weekend in observance of Memorial Day. I don't have any big plans this weekend. I am usually visiting my family for Memorial Day but my parents are not going to be in town so I decided to stay put. I've been trying to catch up on some reading and sleeping. I did get to see the X-Men movie last night though, which I really enjoyed. They were always my favorite superhero comic as a kid and I am partial to them.

This week's book haul is pretty tame. I did make a stop at the library and got a couple of e-books. I really do love the library. It's like shopping without having to pay. :)

E-books

How The Scoundrel Seduces by Sabrina Jeffries - Received this book for review from Edelweiss. It's been a while since I've read a good historical romance and I am fan of Jeffries. Hope to start this one soon.

And All the Stars by Andrea K. Höst - Picked up this sci-fi YA book after reading a review on The Midnigh Garden. I don't read many indie books but this one has a lot of good reviews so crossing fingers it's good.

Shadow Kin by M.J. Scott - My local library has a pretty sad sci-fi/urban fantasy section. I feel this is often the case with libraries and they don't often know where to place certain books. But I was browsing the other day and found this series by MJ Scott. I don't know a lot about it but have seen it around and am going to give it a try. The library also had the 2 other books in the series, which I'll go back for if this is good.

Grasshopper Jungle by Andrew Smith - I was happy to find a copy of Grasshopper Jungle in the YA new releases section. Excited about this one.

The Here and Now by Ann Brashares - Another find from the library. Love the cover to this one and of course, it's Ann Brasheres so I think I will like it.

The Pastry Queen - Cookbook I've been meaning to try. My local branch doesn't really get a ton of new cookbook releases. This is an older one but one I've been meaning to check out and I was happy to find it.

Happy Sunday, all. I hope you've all been having a good weekend. It's been pretty hot here where I live and most of my time has been spent indoors if possible. Yesterday I went to the Ontario Teen Book Fest. I had a fantastic time. The event was really well run and the authors were great. I was pretty good though and only bought one book at the event. This was a good book week for me though because I received a fun stack of books from a friend and I received one pre-order. Let's see what I got!

The Last Forever by Deb Caletti - I haven't read any Deb Caletti yet but this looks like a great summer read.

Through To You by Lauren Barholdt - Another new to me author. This looks like a sweet romance.

The Girls as the Kingfisher Club by Genevieve Valentine - I am a sucker for fairy tale retellings and is a re-imagining of the Twelve Dancing Princesses but set in the 20's. 

Absolutely Truly by Heather Vogel Frederick - I don't know munch about this one but it has a gorgeous illustrated cover. 

The Real Life Story: Sally Ride - This isn't the type of book I normally read but Sally Ride, the first female astronaut in space, we actually a teacher at my college. I took one of her intro classes just to have her as a teacher. She was a pioneer and a fascinating person. I am excited to learn more about her life and career.

#scandal by Sarah Ockler - This is one of the books I was most excited to get. I am a big fan of Ockler's books and can't wait to read this one.

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson - I saw Matson last week at a book signing and she is just adorable and very funny. I think this is going to be a good one.

House of the Rising Sun by Kristen Painter - I featured this cover on the blog recently and promptly put in a pre-order for it. This cover is even prettier in person and I can't wait to read this one. You can't go wrong with vampires in New Orleans. 

Midnight Thief by Livia Blackbourne - They had me at "assassin." :) I didn't know much about this book but was really impressed by Livia Blackbourne at the Ontario Teen Book Fest. This actually doesn't come out until July but Disney/Hyperion had early copies for sale at the event. 

Kiss of Deception by Mary Pearson - Mary was kind enough to give me and ARC of Kiss of Deception at the Fest yesterday. I have only hear positive things about this book and plan to read it really soon. 

As you can see, I have plenty to keep me busy. :) Now I just need to find some time to read all of these. Hope you have a most excellent Sunday!

Happy Mother's Day to those who celebrate and happy Sunday to everyone else. I hope you guys are all having a fantastic weekend. This has been a pretty low key weekend for me, which I am enjoying.  I am heading over to Once Upon a Time later this afternoon to see Morgan Matson and Jenny Han, which should be fun. So last week I went to a book signing with Abbi Glines & Tammara Webber. I was pretty good and only picked up a couple of books at the signing. I also picked up an early release, some DVDs and a couple of e-books this week.

Easy & Breakable by Tammara Webber - I actually have Easy as an e-book but could not resist getting both books at the BN signing.

Sweet Filthy Boy by Christina Lauren - This isn't supposed to be out until Tuesday but I saw it this weekend at BN. Of course I had to get it.

My pre-order of Veronica Mars came! And I picked up a copy of Frozen finally.

It Happened One Wedding by Julie James - I pre-ordered the e-book copy of this. It's the next book in the FBI series and I can't wait to read Vaughn's story!

The Kraken King Pt 4 by Meljean Brooke - I am dying here with this serialized novel.  I want to read it all NOW. Sigh. Eagerly awaiting Part 5 next week.

The Kraken King Pt 3 by Meljean Brook - Yes, part 3 of The Kraken King downloaded this week. Of course I read it right away and now have to wait for part 4...

Riveted by Meljean Brook - I am on a Meljean Brook binge right now. Just finished book 2 and The Irons Seas and am reading 4 as a serialized novel. Riveted just came out in mass market pb recently so I bought a copy. I'll probably won't read it until I am done with The Kraken King. Love this series.

For Review

Get Even by Gretechen McNeil - Ooh yes! So happy to see Gretchen McNeil's new book on Edelweiss this week.

Blackbird by Anna Carey - Upcoming book by Anna Carey (Rise) that is about a girl with amnesia. I find stories of amnesia to be really scary and creepy most of the time and I am looking forward to this one.

The Earl's Mistress by Liz Carlyle - I've actually never read any Liz Carlyle books even though I've seen them around a lot. The premise to this one looked interesting and love that purple on the cover. Hoping I find a new historical romance writer to love.
